Aztecs women's basketball falls short against Illinois Central College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (3-2) closed out play in the Eastern Arizona Classic on Saturday.

  • The No. 14 ranked Aztecs were in a battle but fell short in the end to No. 7 ranked Illinois Central College 96-90.
  • The Aztecs were outscored 35-21 in the second quarter and trailed 53-40 at halftime.
  • Sophomore Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) scored a game-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. She averaged 24.6 points per game during the Eastern Arizona Classic.
  • Sophomore Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) finished the game with 16 points and eight rebounds while fellow sophomore Brianna Pitre (Sabino HS) netted 15 points. Sophomore Bryanne Olson (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) contributed with 13 points on 5 for 9 shooting.

The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they host Cochise College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
