Aztecs women's basketball falters in fourth quarter at Mesa CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (10-4, 4-3 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC conference play on Saturday but had no answers down the stretch at Mesa Community College (9-5, 6-1).

  • The No. 9 ranked Aztecs fell to the Thunderbirds 64-49 snapping their six-game winning streak. Pima only trailed 47-43 after the third quarter but was outscored 17-6 in the fourth.
  • The Aztecs fell behind 19-12 after the first quarter but tied the game at 30-30 at halftime.
  • Freshman Aaliyah Ortiz (Palo Verde HS) led the Aztecs with 12 points off the bench to go along with five rebounds. Sophomore Hallie Lawson (Campo Verde HS) also finished in double figures with 10 points. She also grabbed five rebounds. Freshman Fama Thiam (Highland HS) added nine points and four assists.
  • The Aztecs struggled going 4 for 23 from the three-point arc. They were also outrebounded 45-35 for the game.

The Aztecs will hit the road again on Wednesday when they play at South Mountain Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
