Women's Basketball Guard Melissa Simmons signs with Ottawa University Arizona

Pima Community College women's basketball player Melissa Simmons signed her letter of intent on Thursday to continue her collegiate education and playing career at the four-year university level.

  • Simmons, a sophomore guard from Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas, NV, signed to play at Ottawa University Arizona, an NAIA school in Surprise. The Spirit play in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
  • Simmons started in 30 of the 31 games this season averaging 9.1 points. She scored a season-high 23 points after going 7 for 11 from three-point range. The Aztecs earned the runner-up plaque at the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament this season and went 20-11 overall.
  • Simmons played three seasons for the Aztecs appearing in 62 total games. She helped the Aztecs claim the NJCAA Region I, Division II Championship in 2020 and the NJCAA Division II Southwest District title in 2021.
  • The Aztecs finished with a 50-23 overall record with Simmons on the roster.
