Mayer Scores Game-Winner as Aztec Women's Soccer Blank Mesa; Veliz Gets Win No. 199

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (13-5-1, 13-5-1 in ACCAC) got back on track on Tuesday at Kino North Stadium.

Freshman Daelyn Mayer (Walden Grove HS) scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute as the Aztecs defeated Mesa Community College (8-10-2, 7-10-2) 1-0. Mayer was in the box when sophomore Maury Urcadez (Tucson Magnet HS) set her up with a great corner kick.

The win gave Pima head coach Kendra Veliz her 199th career victory at Pima.

The Aztecs outshot the Thunderbirds 9-5 for the game as sophomore goalkeeper Daniela Sanchez (Sabino HS) finished with five saves.

The Aztecs swept the regular season head-to-head meetings with the Thunderbirds. Pima won 4-1 last month in Mesa.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Thursday when they host Arizona Western College at 7:00 p.m. The sophomores will be recognized before the game and the women's soccer program will celebrate its 20th year of existence.

Pima goals: Mayer (Urcadez) 77th minute.
