Tapia's goal forces overtime as Aztecs women's soccer ties with Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (9-4-1, 6-1-1 in ACCAC) played an intense match on Thursday against Scottsdale Community College (5-6-2, 3-4-1) on Thursday at Kino North Stadium.

  • The Aztecs played from behind for much of the game but a late goal forced overtime and neither teams gave up an inch as it ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore Alexis Tapia (Sahuaro HS) scored the game-tying goal with 5:28 left in regulation as she found the back of the net on a free kick just outside the box.
  • Sophomore Jorie Paul (Cienega HS) made crucial saves in the 87th and 97th minutes to keep the game alive. She finished with five saves.
  • The Artichokes got on the board with a goal by Taylor Woodward in the 24th minute.

The Aztecs will play their final regular season road match on Saturday against Cochise College in Douglas. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
