Aztecs women's tennis shuts out Glendale

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (4-7, 2-1 in ACCAC) earned a sweep on Tuesday against Glendale Community College.

The Aztecs beat Glendale 9-0 at the Tucson Racquet Club. Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) fell behind in both games against Gigi Mercado but came back both times to win 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match. Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) took a 4-1 lead in her second game and went on to defeat Angie Morales at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3. Alameda and Hernandez beat Mercado and Morales in the No. 2 doubles match 8-2.

Stephanie Nickles (Canyon del Oro HS) fell behind 1-2 in the second game of her No. 5 singles match but she rallied off five straight points to beat Taylor Delorme 6-0, 6-2. Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) beat Karen Romandia 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match. Nickles and Mackey beat Delorme and Romandia 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) earned a shutout win in her No. 1 singles match against Bella Diaz 6-0, 6-0 while Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Theresa Jones 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Karp and Oropeza beat Diaz and Jones in the No. 1 doubles match 8-1.

The Aztecs will play at Paradise Valley Community College on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
