Aztecs women's tennis win third straight conference match

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (5-7, 3-1 in ACCAC conference) earned its second straight shutout and third straight win in ACCAC conference play on Thursday in Phoenix.

The Aztecs beat Paradise Valley Community College 9-0. Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) continued her undefeated streak in conference play at No. 6 singles as she shut out Madison Zeller 6-0, 6-0. Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) and Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) are also undefeated in conference play at No. 2 doubles. The duo blanked Makenna Newman and Daria Kodovik 8-0.

Mackey and doubles partner Stephanie Nickles (Canyon del Oro HS) defeated Alexis Smith and Zeller at No. 3 doubles 8-1. Nickles beat Keshahna Hasan 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match.

Alameda and Hernandez earned shutout wins in their singles matches as well. Alameda beat Newman 6-0, 6 -0 at No. 3 singles and Hernandez defeated Kodovik at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Anastasia Ovchinnikova and Melissa Lugo 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Karp beat Ovchinnikova 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Oropeza defeated Lugo 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match.

The Aztecs will be back at the Tucson Racquet Club on Monday when they host Skagit Valley College (WA) on Monday. The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
