Mackey wins seventh straight singles match as women's tennis beats Mesa

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (7-8, 4-2 in ACCAC) earned a regular season sweep against Mesa Community College as the Aztecs won 6-3 on Thursday at the Tucson Racquet Club.

Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) earned her seventh straight win at No. 6 singles and sealed the win for Pima as she defeated Sydney Madsen 6-2, 6-4. Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) trailed 1-5 in the first set of her No. 5 singles match against Vanessa Mitrica and held on in the second set to win the match 7-5, 7-5. Mackey and Nickles won their No. 3 doubles match over Mitrica and Madsen 8-6.

Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) shut out Michelle Fournier 6-0, 6-0 in her No. 2 singles match and along with No. 1 doubles partner Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS), beat Racheal Eshillonu and Sheridan Skarda 8-0. Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) and Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) trailed 6-7 in their No. 2 doubles match but came back to beat Fournier and Desiree Curiel 9-8.

Karp lost in her No. 1 singles match to Eshillonu 6-4, 6-1. Alameda dropped her No. 3 singles match against Skarada 6-0, 6-1 and Hernandez lost to Curiel 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

The Aztecs will play at Glendale Community College next Thursday, Apr. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
