Aztecs Women's Tennis Gets Shut Out Against Mesa CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (3-2, 1-1 in ACCAC) fell in an ACCAC conference match against No. 6 ranked Mesa Community College on Tuesday at the Tucson Racquet Club. The No. 19 ranked Aztecs were shutout 9-0.

Freshmen Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS) fell 8-6 in their No. 1 doubles match/ They were behind 5-2 but cut the deficit to one point at 6-5. The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) and freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) lost to Yolena Carlon and Maria Beatriz Gorduno 8-0. In the No. 3 doubles match, freshman Dana Pineda (Rincon/University HS) and sophomore Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) fell 8-0 to Hanna Nelson and Julia Ortiz.

In singles competition, Miller dropped her match at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 to Gorduno while Nickles lost at No. 3 singles to Carlon 6-2, 6-0. Brown fell at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0 while Pineda was shutout in her No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0 to Ortiz. Ruth lost to Huynh at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Hernandez dropped her match at No. 4 singles to Nelson 6-0, 6-1.

The Aztecs will play a couple of non-conference matches in California. They'll play at San Diego Mesa College on Monday, Mar. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
