Aztecs Women's Tennis Dominate Against Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (7-3, 3-1 in ACCAC) responded in a big way a day after dropping a non-conference match.

The Aztecs got back to ACCAC conference play and shut out Paradise Valley Community College 9-0 on Thursday at the Tucson Racquet Club.

In singles competition, freshman Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS) led 3-2 in the first set and won the last three points and avoided a third set by beating Joanne Uzzanti 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match.

In the No. 3 singles match, freshman Dana Pineda (Rincon/University HS) shut out Raven Covington in the first set and won a close second set. She won 6-0, 6-4.

Freshman Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) defeated Gabriella Wallen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while sophomore Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) won her No. 5 singles match over Bianca Amaya 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) beat Madison Zeller at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 and sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) blanked Erica Wolford at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Brown and Ruth won their No. 1 doubles match over Wallen and Covington 8-1. Pineda and Hernandez defeated Uzzanti and Wolford 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while the duo of Nickles and Miller shut out Amaya and Zeller 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The Aztecs will play their fourth match of the week on Saturday against Skagit Valley College at the Tucson Racquet Club. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
