Aztecs Women's Tennis Close Out Regular Season With Shutout Win

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (11-5, 6-2 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season in dominating fashion as it earned a shutout win 9-0 at Paradise Valley Community College.

Freshman Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned her own shutout victory at No. 1 singles as she beat Gabriela Wallen 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS) defeated Jenny Mada in her No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles duo of Brown and Ruth trounced Wallen and Raven Covington 8-1.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Dana Pineda (Rincon/University HS) defeated Covington 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) earned a win at No. 5 singles as she beat Bianca Amaya 6-1, 6-0. Hernandez and No. 2 doubles partner Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) overwhelmed Mada and Erica Wolford 8-1.

Sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) blanked Wolford in the first set and won her No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) avoided a third set as she defeated Madison Zeller at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-4. Nickles and Miller won their No. 3 doubles match over Amaya and Zeller 8-3.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Championships on Apr. 19-20 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, AZ. Competition begins at 8:00 a.m. on both days.
