Aztecs women's tennis drop conference opener at Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (1-1) kicked-off ACCAC conference play on Thursday in Thatcher, AZ against Eastern Arizona College (2-5).

The Aztecs fell to the Gila Monsters 8-1. Freshman Elise Rodriguez (Flowing Wells HS) provided Pima's only victory with her win at No. 6 singles over Rebekah Larson 7-6 (7-3 in tie-breaker), 6-3.

Freshman Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) lost a hard fought match at No. 1 singles to Amelie Saint-Dizier 6-4, 6-3 while freshman Lien Nguyen fell to Jenni Milne 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Oropeza and Nguyen dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Saint-Dizier and Juliette Mary 8-5.

Freshman Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) lost in her No. 2 singles match to Mary 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Dana Pineda (University HS) fell to Celine Marin 6-0, 6-1 in their No. 4 singles match. Fernando and Pineda lost at No. 2 doubles to Milne and Marin 8-3.

Freshman Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) dropped her No. 5 singles match to Payton Cap 6-4, 6-3 as the No. 3 duo of Rodriguez and Shafer fell to Cap and Larson 8-3.

The Aztecs women's and men's tennis teams will be back at the West Campus tennis courts on Wednesday when they host ACCAC conference match-ups against Mesa Community College. Both matches begin at 11:00 a.m.
