Aztecs women's tennis remain undefeated after downing Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (3-0) earned a shutout win on Tuesday at Glendale Community College.

The Aztecs blanked the Gauchos 9-0 to remain undefeated in the regular season and in ACCAC conference play.

Sophomore Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Erin Sye in her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) and freshmen Meghan Houk (Corona del Sol HS) and Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) shut out their respected opponents.

Fernando beat Cedellar Zula at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 while Houk dominated her No. 3 singles match over Clara DiRusso 6-0, 6-0. Fitzsimmons upended Cristina Diaz 6-0, 6-0 in her No. 4 singles match.

Oropeza and Fernando won their No. 1 doubles match 8-1 while Houk and sophomore Lien Nguyen shut out the Gauchos at No. 2 doubles 8-0.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Thursday when they play at Paradise Valley Community College. The match will be in Phoenix and will begin at 1:30 p.m.
