Aztecs women's tennis shuts out Glendale CC
The Pima Community College women's tennis team earned a clean sweep in its match against Glendale Community College on Thursday at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
The No. 17 ranked Aztecs beat the Gauchos 9-0.
The Aztecs did not surrender a single set point in singles play. Sophomore Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Erin Sye 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Fellow sophomore Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) beat Cedellar Zula 6-0, 6-0 in her No. 2 singles match. Oropeza and Fernando earned an 8-0 shutout win at No. 1 doubles.
Freshman Meghan Houk (Corona del Sol HS) won her No. 3 singles match over Clara Di 6-0, 6-0 and freshman Ashley Fitzsimmons took charge to top Cristina Diaz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Houk and No. 2 doubles partner Lien Nguyen won their match 8-1.
The Aztecs close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host Paradise Valley Community College at the West Campus Tennis Courts. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
