The Pima Community College volleyball team (7-15, 4-8 in ACCAC) dropped its fourth straight match on Tuesday against Eastern Arizona College (18-8, 6-4).

The Aztecs dropped the first two sets and couldn't recover as they fell to the Gila Monsters in four sets 28-26, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17.

The Aztecs fell behind in the first set 14-7 but rallied back to close the gap to one point on two occasions. They tied it at 24-24 and took a 25-24 lead after an Eastern Arizona miscue. The Gila Monsters tied it and took two more advantage points before closing it out.

The Aztecs took a slim lead in the second set but fell behind 20-12. They scored four straight points but that's as close as they'd get.

In the third set, the Aztecs and the Gila Monsters went back and forth to start. Up 9-8, the Aztecs scored seven straight points to make it 16-8. The Gila Monsters rallied to cut it to 22-21 but a kill from freshman Kaitlin Schmich (Mountain View HS) and a block from sophomore Jamie Ricksecker (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) helped the Aztecs steal the third set.

The Aztecs couldn't close the gap in the final set as the Gila Monsters took control.

Schmich led the Aztecs with 13 kills and also had 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Sophomore Victoria Davis (Sahuaro HS) secured her 12th double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Kayli Riesgo (Cienega HS) had 19 assists while fellow sophomore Gianni Romero (Sahuaro HS) had 18 assists and nine digs. Sophomore Kylee Ashment (Highland HS) finished with six kills and three blocks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Gymnasium on Wednesday when they host Scottsdale Community College at 7:00 p.m.
