Aztecs volleyball top another ranked opponent in Yavapai College

The Pima Community College volleyball team (4-3, 3-0 in ACCAC) picked up another big ACCAC conference win on Wednesday beating No. 13 ranked Yavapai College (Division I).

  • The Aztecs, who play in Division II, defeated the Roughriders (7-3, 0-1) in four sets (27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
  • The Aztecs rallied to win the first set and scored 13 straight points to help with the third set and take a 2-1 lead in the match. They came from behind again in the fourth set and scored the final three points to win it.
  • The Aztecs had four players reach double figures in kills. Freshmen Jade Romine (Canyon del Oro HS) and Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) each finished with double-doubles of 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Kendall Deeter (Mountain View HS) had 11 kills and eight blocks while sophomore Lyrica Tavesi (Pima HS) posted 10 kills. Freshman Kaleigh Hockett (Desert Mountain HS) had 47 assists.
  • The Aztecs had strong serving as well finishing with 10 aces.

The Aztecs will step away from ACCAC conference play as they'll take part in the Scottsdale Classic on Friday and Saturday at Scottsdale Community College. The Aztecs play three matches on Friday; Benedictine University-Mesa at 8:30 a.m., Ottawa University-Arizona at 11:00 a.m. and the College of Southern Nevada at 4:00 p.m.
