Aztecs volleyball goes 3-0 to close out play in San Diego

The Pima Community College volleyball team (9-7) earned two dominating wins to close out play in San Diego on Saturday.

Freshmen Kaleigh Hockett (54 assists, seven aces) and Mackenzie Welch (13 kills, 6 blocks) had stellar matches for Pima.

  • The Aztecs defeated Cuyamaca College (6-4) in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-19.
  • Sophomore Kaitlin Schmich (Mountain View HS) finished with 11 kills while freshman Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) had 13 digs and five aces. Freshman Kaleigh Hockett (Desert Mountain HS) had 28 assists and five aces and Mackenzie Welch (Willcox HS) contributed with eight kills and three blocks.
  • In their second match of the day, the Aztecs swept through Miramar College (1-9) 25-20, 25-9, 25-12.
  • Freshman Annie Pena (Sabino HS) had seven kills while freshman Jade Romine (Canyon del Oro HS) produced with six kills and 19 digs. Hockett finished with 26 assists and two aces. Welch had five kills and three blocks and Grace Adams (Sabino HS) contributed with 10 digs.

The Aztecs return to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when they play at Scottsdale Community College. The match is set for 7:00 p.m.
