Aztecs cross country open season at George Kyte Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2017 season on Saturday at the George Kyte Invitational at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff.

The Aztecs women's team finished in fifth place out of seven teams with a score of 116 points.

Freshman Sionna Johnson (Cienega HS) had the best finish for the Aztecs on the 2.6-mile course as she took 13th place out of 60 competitors with a time of 17 minutes, 55.8 seconds.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) finished in 14th place with a time of 18:02.3. Freshman Cindy Corrales (Nogales HS) took 26th with a time of 19:13.6 while freshman Kaylen Fox (Sahuaro HS) was 31st at 20:05.9. Sophomore Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) placed 32nd with a finishing time of 20:31.2.

In men's competition, the Aztecs took sixth place out of seven teams with a total of 141 points.

Freshman Morgan Risch (Flowing Wells HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs as he took 14th place with a finishing time of 25 minutes, 44.5 seconds on the 4.5-mile course.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) took 28th place with a time of 27:04.4 while fellow sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) was 30th at 27:14.0. Freshman Luis Oviedo (Rio Rico HS) placed 32nd with a time of 27:39.0 and freshman Connor Deakin (Ironwood Ridge HS) was 37th at 28:10.5.

The Aztecs will be in Tucson on Friday, Sept. 15 when they compete in the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona. The races will be held at the Randolph North Golf Course. The men's race will be at 5:00 p.m. and the women's race will follow at 5:45 p.m.
