Aztecs cross country set three PRs at Thunderbird Classic

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Thunderbird Classic on Saturday at Mesa Community College.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took second place and was the top finisher among the junior college competitors as she finished the 5K race with a time of 18 minutes, 43.1 seconds. The Aztecs did not produce a team score for the race.

Freshman Kaylen Fox (Sahuaro HS) and sophomore Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) set lifetime personal records. Fox took 12th place with a time of 20:33.8 while Roche placed 16th at 20:50.2. Freshman Cindy Corrales finished in 11th place with a time of 20:29.2.

On the men's side, the Aztecs finished in third place with a score of 80 points. Mesa Community College took first place with 15 points.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs with an 11th place finish out of 50 runners and a time of 27:18.4 in the 8K race.

Freshman Connor Deakin (Ironwood Ridge HS) set a lifetime personal record with a time of 28:20.1 which put him in 26th place.

Sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) finished 19th with a time of 27:58.6 while freshman Luis Oviedo (Rio Rico HS) took 32nd place at 29:05.7. Sophomore Gabe Atchley was 34th at 29:09.5.

The Aztecs will compete in their final regular season meet on Friday in the Mt. SAC CC Invitational in Walnut, CA. The men's race will be at 10:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
