Risch and women's XC earn third place finishes at Mt. SAC CC Invitational

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed in Walnut, CA on Saturday as part of the Mt. SAC CC Invitational.

The women's team finished in third place out of 14 teams with a score of 111 points.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS), who was named the NJCAA National Athlete of the Week on Monday, was the top finisher for the Aztecs as she took fourth place in the 3-mile race with a time of 18 minutes, 59.9 seconds. There were 126 competitors.

Freshman Sionna Johnson (Cienega HS) finished in 12th place with a time of 19:40.8 while freshman Cindy Corrales (Nogales HS) took 21st crossing the finish line at 20:14.7. Freshman Kaylen Fox (Sahuaro HS) placed 41st at 21:06.3 and sophomore Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) was 59th with a time of 22:06.6.

The Aztecs men's cross country team took sixth place out of 18 teams with a team score of 200 points.

Freshman Morgan Risch (Flowing Wells HS) had the best finish for the Aztecs as he took third place out of 179 runners in the 4-mile race with a time of 21:11.1.

Sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) placed 46th with a time of 22:55.3 while freshman Luis Oviedo (Rio Rico HS) was 49th at 23:00.2. Sophomore Gabe Atchley finished 92nd at 24:01.1 and freshman Connor Deakin (Ironwood Ridge HS) placed 101st at 24:20.0.

The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Shalimar Golf Club in Mesa. The men's race will be at 9:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 9:45 a.m.
