Aztecs cross country compete at NJCAA National Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NJCAA National Championships on Saturday in Fort Dodge, IA.

The women's team finished in 21st place out of 42 teams with a team score of 543 points. The men's team placed 30th out of 44 teams with 774 points.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) was the top Pima runner as she finished the 5K (3.11 mile) race in 18th place out of 311 competitors with a time of 18 minutes, 50.7 seconds.

Freshman Sionna Johnson (Cienega HS) finished in 56th place with a time of 19:40.7 while freshman Cindy Corrales (Nogales HS) crossed the finish line in 141st place at 20:44.8. Freshman Kaylen Fox (Sahuaro HS) was 184th with a time of 21:19.6 and sophomore Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) took 206th at 21:47.8.

In the men's 8K (4.97 miles) race, freshman Morgan Risch (Flowing Wells HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs in 46th place out of 322 competitors with a closing time of 26:35.1.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished the race in 125th with mark of 27:29.7 while freshman Connor Deakin (Ironwood Ridge HS) crossed the finish line at 28:32.4 which put him 203rd. Sophomore Gabe Atchley was 213th at the 28:42.2 and sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) took 223rd at 28:53.2.

The men's and women's track & field season begins in January.
