Bruno, Siml and Tarazon finish in top 5 at Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams came away with second place finishes on Saturday at the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic.

  • The women's team took second with 41 points as Mesa Community College place first with 36.
  • The No. 14 ranked Aztecs were led by sophomore Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS), who took first place in the 5K (3.1 miles) out of 63 competitors with a time of 18 minutes, 09.4 seconds. Freshman Mary Siml placed third with a time of 19:16.0.
  • In the men's race, the No. 20 ranked Aztecs also took second place with 63 points. They were the top scoring ACCAC team.
  • Freshman Luis Tarazon (Desert View HS) finished the 8K (4.97 miles) in fourth place out of 77 runners with a time of 26:56.5. Freshman Juan Miranda (Flowing Wells HS) rounded out the top 10 with a time of 27:24.7.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mt. SAC CC Invitational on Friday in Walnut, CA. The women's race will be at 10:00 a.m. and the men's race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
