The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams will display many Southern Arizona talents during the 2020-21 season.

The Aztecs put 24 recruits on scholarship and 37 total on the roster.

"Bringing in local talent is going to be the pillar of success for our program," Pima track & field interim head coach Chad Harrison said. "Being able to recruit out of Tucson and Southern Arizona, and keeping the local talent here rather than having them go to other junior colleges or NAIA schools, is our first focus.

"We have an open door policy here at Pima for Southern Arizona athletes. We always have. We want to make sure we give all of the Southern Arizona kids an opportunity to continue their education and their athletics."

Coach Harrison is looking towards future classes and expanding the scholarship number of Southern Arizona student-athletes.

"We were able to give so many local kids scholarships this year. I look forward to growing out the scholarship number in the near future," Harrison said. "The Southern Arizona athletes we have are high caliber not only on the track but in the classroom as well.

"I think many high school coaches; not only in Tucson but throughout the state, will see the quality athletes we have. Additionally, the ample opportunities that we're providing our athletes to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions."

Harrison sees opportunity in utilizing the revamped Aztecs Field at the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex on the West Campus with the addition of lights.

"We plan to put on local invitationals, help with big high school meets and put on coaching clinics," Harrison said. "The goal is to grow the wealth of knowledge and increase track and field talent in Southern Arizona."
