Aztecs Baseball Scores 24 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep vs. El Paso CC

The Pima Community College baseball team (6-0) continued to showcase its efficient offense on Friday as the Aztecs played a doubleheader against El Paso Community College.

Sophomore Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) had a great game as he went 4 for 5 with four runs scored and five walks on the day. Sophomores Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS), Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS), David Oropeza (Nogales HS), Francisco Rodriguez (Tucson Magnet HS) as well as freshman Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) all had three RBIs on the day.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 12, El Paso CC Tejanos 3 (7 innings)

The Aztecs broke the game open with a six-run 2nd inning. Sophomore Hunter Green (Sahuaro HS) hit a two-run RBI single to score Ramsower and Catalano, who had an RBI single earlier in his at-bat. Oropeza also had an RBI single in the inning.

Rodriguez was flawless at the plate as he finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Estrella went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two walks. Oropeza finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Green was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a walk.

Freshman pitcher Trevelle Hill (Tucson Magnet HS) got out of a bases loaded jam in the 4th inning by getting a double play. The Aztecs led 9-2 at the end of the inning. Hill picked up the win (2-0) as he pitched six innings giving up three runs (three earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Xander Carrillo (Tucson Magnet HS) closed it out as he pitched one inning giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 12, El Paso CC Tejanos 6 (9 innings)

The Aztecs took a 7-0 lead after the 2nd inning but the Tejanos came back and cut the lead to 8-6. Pima responded with four runs in the 8th to help close it out.

In the 2nd inning, Estrella and freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) drew back-to-back bases loaded walks. Ramsower hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the next at-bat and Catalano brought in another run with his groundout RBI. Ramirez hit an RBI single in the 8th inning and Max Whitehead had an RBI off a fielder's choice.

Ramsower was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Ramirez finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Estrella went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three walks.

Freshman pitcher Andres Hackman (Empire HS) picked up the win (2-0) after he pitched six innings. He pitched five scoreless innings and finished giving up two runs (two earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will host El Paso Community College tomorrow for another non-conference doubleheader at the West Campus. The games will be at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
