Aztecs baseball fall in conference doubleheader vs. GateWay

The Pima Community College baseball team (10-14, 3-12 in ACCAC) struggled on offense as the Aztecs dropped an ACCAC doubleheader against GateWay Community College (10-13, 7-9) on Tuesday at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Aztecs have lost six straight.

Game 1: GateWay CC Geckos 6, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Geckos took an early lead with four runs in the first inning. The Aztecs had two runs and four hits for the game.

Sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS) put the Aztecs on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to score freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS). Garcia had an RBI in the sixth inning to plate freshman Kyle Rivera (Tucson HS).

Migueles went 1 for 3 with an RBI while Garcia finished 0 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomores Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) and Miguel Figueroa (Tucson HS) were each 1 for 2.

Freshman Gage O'Brien (Catalina Foothills HS) took the loss (0-1) as he started the game and pitched five innings giving up six runs (six earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and two walks. Freshman Troy Gutbub (Catalina Foothills HS) threw the final two innings giving up one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: GateWay CC Geckos 3, Pima CC Aztecs 1: Figueroa pitched a good game but the offense managed just one run on two hits.

Garcia hit an RBI single in the seventh inning and finished 1 for 3. Felix also went 1 for 3. The Aztecs drew eight walks in the game as Migueles finished with three.

Figueroa pitched six and two-third innings giving up three runs (three earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) threw the final two and one-third innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will take to the road on Saturday when they play Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ. The ACCAC doubleheader will start at noon.
