The Pima Community College baseball team (11-15, 4-13 in ACCAC) broke its seven-game skid and earned a split at Yavapai College on Saturday in Prescott.

The Pima offense struggled in the first game but found plenty of production in the second game behind sophomore Erick Migueles (Canyon del Oro HS).

Game 1: Yavapai College Roughriders 4, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Roughriders took a 3-0 lead after the third inning and the Aztecs attempted to rally in the late innings.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when freshman Austin Treadwell had a groundout RBI to score freshman Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS).

In the seventh inning, sophomore Manny Ramirez (Bisbee HS) hit a leadoff double and later scored on a passed ball. Treadwell struck out with a runner on base to end it.

The Aztecs managed just three hits as Ramirez went 1 for 2 with a run scored and a walk. Freshman Logan Klunder and sophomore Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) each finished 1 for 3.

Freshman Jose Contreras (Tucson HS) took the loss (2-1) as he pitched a complete-game giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 8, Yavapai College Roughriders 3: The Aztecs trailed 2-0 heading into the third inning and one swing of the bat changed everything.

Migueles hit a three-run homer to score Treadwell and Felix to put Pima up 3-2. The Aztecs scored another three runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore Oscar Larranaga (Sunnyside HS) hit a two-run RBI double to plate Felix and freshman Martin Garcia (Tucson HS). Mendez knocked in Larranaga to make it 6-2 and hit another RBI single in the seventh inning to score Migueles.

Migueles capped off his play with an RBI single in the ninth inning to score Felix. Migueles finished the game 3 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

Larranaga also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Felix was 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Mendez finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Treadwell was also 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Sophomore Trevelle Hill (Tucson HS) picked up the win (2-4) as he started and went six and two-third innings giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Fellow sophomore Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) threw the final two and one-third innings with three strikeouts.

The Aztecs play five games in four days next week. They'll host a non-conference doubleheader against Monroe Community College on Tuesday at the West Campus field. The first game starts at noon.
