Williams' Double-Double Pushes Men's Basketball Passed Phoenix College

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (12-9, 7-6 in ACCAC) scored the upset on Saturday in its game at Phoenix College (16-5, 9-4).

The Aztecs held a double digit lead for the most of the game as they defeated No. 18 ranked Phoenix College 94-86.

The Aztecs led 55-32 early in the second half but the Bears came back and went on a 16-3 run to make it 58-50. The Aztecs came right back when sophomore Justice Martion scored a bucket inside and freshman Kwintin Williams converted on a three-point play to make it 63-50.

Up 67-56 with 10:28 left in the game, the Aztecs patted their lead as they went on a 16-5 run to make it 83-61 with a little over five minutes left. Williams scored nine points in that stretch. Phoenix College went on a 12-3 run but the Aztecs hit some free throws to help seal it.

In the first half, the Aztecs went on a 22-3 run in over five minutes to take a 36-13 lead. They took advantage of some red-hot shooting from three-point range. Sophomores Yusef Shehata (Amphitheater HS) and Cameron Volk (Tucson Magnet HS) combined to hit nine 3-pointers in the half.

Williams finished the game with 30 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Shehata scored 19 of his 24 points in the first half. He hit six 3-pointers for the game. Volk contributed with 15 points and seven rebounds while fellow sophomore Justice Martion had 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Aztecs will play their third straight game on the road as they compete at Tohono O'Odham Community College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
