The Pima Community College men's basketball team (15-12, 10-9 in ACCAC) used sharp-shooting in the second half to pull away on Saturday.

The Aztecs took control in the final 12:09 of the game to beat Arizona Western College (19-8, 12-7) 89-82 in Yuma. They swept the regular season head-to-head meetings with the Matadors.

The Aztecs faced their biggest deficit at 62-52 but sophomore Cameron Volk (Tucson Magnet HS) drained a three-pointer. Pima trailed 64-55 with 12:09 left and went on a 13-5 run to cut it to 69-68. Volk scored eight of those 13 points. The Aztecs took the lead for good at 72-71 with freshman Kwintin Williams' basket in the paint. The Aztecs went on to outscore the Matadors 40-18 the rest of the game.

All five starters for the Aztecs finished in double figures. Williams had another double-double as he finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Volk scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half to go along with six assists.

Sophomore Yusuf Shehata (Amphitheater HS) scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half. Sophomore Justice Martion had 15 points and five rebounds while freshman Keven Biggs (Cienega HS) contributed with 12 points. He went 7 for 8 from the free throw line and hit four of his foul shots in the final minute.

The Aztecs swept the regular season series with the Matadors as they upset them at the West Campus 91-85 last month.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Wednesday when they host Central Arizona College at 7:30 p.m.
