Carrasco and Bailey lead second half charge as Aztecs men's basketball overpowers Tohono O'odham CC

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (18-2, 10-2 in ACCAC) used its quickness to tire out Tohono O'odham Community College (4-16, 1-11) in the second half on Wednesday at the West Campus Gym.

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs outscored the Jegos 70-41 in the second half to win 117-78 earning a regular season sweep in their meetings. Pima won 112-74 in Sells back in November.

Up 64-50 with 13 minutes left in the half, the Aztecs went on a 29-6 run in four and a half minutes to take a 95-58 lead. Freshmen Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) and Jeremiah Bailey scored 22 of the 29 points during that stretch.

The momentum started to swing in the Aztecs' favor late in the first half. Up 39-35, the Aztecs closed out the half on an 8-2 run in the final minute. Carrasco and sophomore Keven Biggs (Cienega HS) hit three-pointers to help give Pima 47-37 lead at the break.

Carrasco scored 25 of his game-high 28 points in the second half. Bailey finished with 26 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore Ilunga Moise (Raymond S. Kellis HS) scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half finished with nine rebounds. Sophomore Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) also scored 16 points while Biggs contributed with 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Alize Travis had six points and 14 assists.

The Aztecs look to avenge one of its two losses on Saturday when they play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. The Aztecs lost to the Coyotes 98-94 in overtime on Nov. 28.
