Carranza Nets Two goals as Men's Soccer Blanks GateWay CC

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (5-1, 5-1 in ACCAC) earned its fourth shutout win in the six games played as the Aztecs shut out GateWay Community College on Thursday at the Kino North Grandstand.

Freshman Gavino Carranza (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored the goals as the Aztecs beat the Geckos (0-4-1, 0-4-1) 2-0. Carranza put the Aztecs ahead in the first half after converting on a cross pass assist from fellow freshman Julian Gaona (Tucson Magnet HS) in the 37th minute. Pima led 1-0 at halftime.

Freshman Chris Cooper (Rincon/University HS) was fouled in the box which set up Carranza's second goal off a penalty kick in the 54th minute.

The Aztecs finished the game with six shots on goal and limited GateWay to just three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) had two saves while fellow sophomore keeper James McWilliams (Sahuaro HS) had one save.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College at 4:30 p.m.
