Gaona Scores Two Goals as Men's Soccer Stymie Glendale CC

The Pima Community College men's soccer team (14-3-1, 14-3-1 in ACCAC) earned its seventh shutout win of the season on Thursday as the Aztecs blanked Glendale Community College (6-10-1, 6-10-1) on the road.

The No. 14 ranked Aztecs beat the Gauchos 3-0 winning their fourth straight game. The Aztecs have won six of their last eight games.

Freshman Julian Gaona (Tucson Magnet HS) scored two goals for the Aztecs early in the first half. He netted his first goal 52 seconds into the game and put the Pima ahead 2-0 with another goal in the 4th minute. Sophomore Kyle VanAlstine (Cienega HS) and Tatsuma Yuki had the assists for Gaona's goals. The Aztecs held their 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Freshman Chris Cooper (University HS) scored Pima's second half goal in the 71st minute with an assist from sophomore Hector Banegas (Rincon HS).

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished with three saves.

The Aztecs earned a regular season sweep against the Gauchos. Pima won a 5-4 game at the Kino North Grandstand last month.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season next week with two games at Kino North Stadium. They will host Mesa Community College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
