Kametani and Cosgrove named ACCAC/Region I Player and Coach of the Year

The Pima Community College men's soccer program earned top honors after the ACCAC released its all-conference and all-region teams.

Sophomore forward Hugo Kametani was named ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year and coach David Cosgrove was selected ACCAC Coach of the Year.

  • Kametani scored 22 goals with five assists as he started and played in all 20 games. He is the fourth Pima Player of the Year in the last five years joining AJ Valenzuela (2017), Jason Romero (2015) and Arturo Vega (2014). Kametani was also selected first team All-ACCAC/NJCAA Region I.
  • Cosgrove is now a seven-time ACCAC/Region I Coach of the Year. He led the Aztecs to an 18-2 record during the regular season as the Aztecs went 10-0 at Kino Sports Complex for the first time in program history. The Aztecs also claimed their second straight ACCAC conference title. Cosgrove is currently 339-111-30 in 22 seasons with the Aztecs.
  • Sophomore defender Kaskile Zawadi (Cholla HS) was selected first team All-ACCAC/NJCAA Region I. He helped lead a defense that gave up just 14 goals on the season and at one point earned shutout wins in five straight games.
  • Freshman midfielder Ricky Gordillo (Maya HS) was named second team All-ACCAC/NJCAA Region I. He was second in the ACCAC conference with 14 assists and was tied for third on the team with 22 points. He played in 17 games and made 14 starts.
  • Freshman defender Martin Cardenas (Sabino HS) was chosen second team All-ACCAC/NJCAA Region I. He was also instrumental in the defensive play that produced 11 shutout wins on the season. The Aztecs blanked their opponents in seven of their final nine games. Cardenas played in 16 games and made 15 starts.

The Aztecs will host the NJCAA Region I, Division I semifinals on Thursday at Kino North Stadium. The No. 1 seeded Aztecs will play No. 4 Yavapai College at 6:00 p.m.
