The Pima Community College Athletics department set new records with 11 of the 13 teams receiving NJCAA All-Academic recognition and a new school record of 74 student-athletes earning All-Academic distinction.

Pima Community College men’s track & field athlete Trey Tintinger has committed to an NCAA Division I institution to continue his education and collegiate career.

The Pima track & field/cross country programs are hosting summer camps for high school-college freshman (June 21-24) and youth (July 20-22) at the West Campus Aztec Track.

The Pima Community College track & field and cross country programs will host summer camps at the West Campus Aztec Track part of the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex.

Pima Community College track & field athlete Orion Barger (Canyon del Oro HS) has decided to continue his education and collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level.

Sophomores Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Nathan Plant will continue their collegiate careers at the NCAA Division I levels. Gardner committed to the University of Alabama while Plant will head to the University of Northern Colorado. Photo by Raymond Suarez

Pima Community College men’s track & field and cross country athletes Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Nathan Plant committed to NCAA Division I programs and will join their new schools in the fall.

The Aztecs men's track & field team finished in 18th place with a total of 17 points at the NJCAA Division I National Championships. Sophomore Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) became a three-time All-American in the 5,000 meters as he took fourth place (14:40.92). The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams closed the 2023 seasons on Saturday in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships.

Three Aztecs Men's Track & Field athletes earned NJCAA All-American honors after the second day of the Division I National Championships: sophomore Trey Tintinger took third place in the High Jump with a mark of 2.10 meters (6-10.75). Freshman Johnathon Lane (Walden Grove HS) took sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:41.55) and freshman Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) placed eighth in the Decathlon (5656 points). The Pima Community College men’s track & field team closed out the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championship on Friday.

The Pima Community College men’s track & field team locked up its second NJCAA Region I Team Championship in three years after all was said and done on Thursday at Mesa Community College.

Freshmen Johnathon Lane (3,000 steeplechase), Jett Jue (Long Jump) and sophomore Joshua Bowen (Javelin) captured Region I titles in the first day of the NJCAA Region I Championships. The Pima Community College men’s track & field team made an impact after the first day of the NJCAA Region I Championships on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.

Freshman Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) took first place in the Decathlon on Tuesday in the final day of the NJCAA Region I Multi Championships. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams sent representatives to compete in the Decathlon and Heptathlon as part of the NJCAA Region I Multi’s Championships on Monday and Tuesday held at Mesa Community College.

Freshman Johnathon Lane (Walden Grove HS) set a national qualifying time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 9:21.47. It was the third national qualifier he has set and it was the fastest time by a Pima athlete since Alejandro Valencia's time of 9:20.31 set in 2013. Photo courtesy of Mark Bennett

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in their final regular season meet on Saturday as part of the Canyon Invitational held at Grand Canyon University.

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field team competed at the Mesa Outdoor Invitational on Friday in Mesa.

Sophomore distance runner Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) was named the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division I M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after he broke the Pima school record in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:12.84. Pima Community College sophomore distance runner Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) made history last Saturday at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, CA and his effort in the 5,000 meter race was rewarded on the national scale.

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field team competed at the Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday at University of California San Diego in La Jolla, CA.

Freshman Johnathon Lane (Walden Grove HS) earned a national qualifier in the 1,500 meter race (3:59.92) while sophomores Trey Tintinger (High Jump) and Joel Gardner (1,500 meters) improved their qualifying marks at the ACCAC Conference Championships. The Pima Community College men’s track & field team competed at the ACCAC Conference Championships on Friday at Glendale Community College.

Sophomore Tristan Spalding (Palo Verde HS) set two national qualifiers at the Willie Williams Classic on Saturday. He set a qualifier in the 400-meters with a time of 47.89 seconds. Spalding, along with Broden Cahoon, Nathan Plant and Orion Barger, set a national qualifier in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:17.11. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in the final day of the Willie Williams Classic on Saturday as the Aztecs set two new national qualifying times at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
