The Pima Community College softball team (3-2) opened the 2017 season in Henderson, NV on Friday and Saturday at the College of Southern Nevada Kick-Off Classic.
Sophomore pitcher Bailey Critchlow picked up two wins on the mound and the offense averaged eight runs a game.
(18) Pima CC Aztecs 7, College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 6: Down 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Mary Tom (Mountain View HS) hit a game-winning triple to win it. She went 3 for 4 in the game.
Sophomore Margarita Corona (Tucson HS) hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Critchlow picked up the win (2-0) as she pitched a complete game giving up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits with one strikeout and one walk.
(18) Pima CC Aztecs 13, El Paso CC Tejanos1 (5 innings): Sophomores Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS), Corona and Gabriella Gorosave each hit home runs in the game. Brown went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Corona was 3 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs. Gorosave finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and four RBIs.
Freshman Hannah Wood picked up the win (1-0) in relief as she pitched three innings giving up three hits. Sophomore Luisa Silvain (Cholla HS) started and threw two innings giving up one run (one earned) on three hits and one strikeout.
(18) Pima CC Aztecs 7, Colorado Northwestern CC Spartans 5: Critchlow and Corona each had two RBIs and a double for the game. The Aztecs went up 7-2 after a five-run fifth inning.
Critchlow (1-0) picked up her first win after she threw a complete game giving up five runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
(8) Salt Lake CC Bruins 18, (18) Pima CC Aztecs 5 (5 innings): Freshman MaryAlys Julian (Gila Ridge HS) hit a home run and Brown went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two walks.
Freshman Mandy Lorenson (0-1) took the loss after she threw one-and-two-third innings giving up eight runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks.
Odessa College Wranglers 12, Pima CC Aztecs 8: Julian hit an inside-the-park home run and finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs while sophomore Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Freshman Hannah Freer (Sabino HS) started and took the loss (0-1) as she went two and one-third innings giving up four runs (four earned) on four hits with one walk.
The Aztecs begin ACCAC conference play on Tuesday at Arizona Western College in Yuma. The games will be at noon and 2:00 p.m.
