The Pima Community College softball team (14-8, 10-5 in ACCAC) earned an ACCAC conference doubleheader sweep with two mercy-rule victories on Saturday against Scottsdale Community College (5-11, 5-11) at the West Campus.
Sophomore Luisa Silvain (Cholla HS), freshman Megan Lorenson (Ironwood Ridge HS) and freshman Hannah Wood combined to throw the shutouts for the day as the offense scored 19 runs. Sophomore Amy Pacheco (Sahuaro HS) finished the day 3 for 6 with six RBIs and two runs scored.
Game 1: (18) Pima CC Aztecs 8, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs went on a tear in the third inning scoring seven runs and added one run in the fourth.
Pacheco hit a two-run RBI double in the third inning while sophomore Mary Tom (Mountain View HS) hit an RBI single and freshman Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS) had an RBI double. Sophomore Margarita Corona (Tucson HS) and freshman Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) drew bases loaded walks and sophomore Gabriela Trejo (Desert View HS) had an RBI in the inning.
Pacheco went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Corona was 1 for 2 with two RBIs. Tom finished 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI and sophomore Courtney Brown (Flowing Wells HS) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Silvain picked up the win (2-1) as she pitched five innings giving up five hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs put the game away after scoring nine runs in the fourth inning. They got things started with two runs in the second inning.
Pacheco continued her hot streak at the plate as she hit a grand slam as part of the fourth inning and went on to finish 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored.
Corona finished the game 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored while freshman Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) went 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Freshman MaryAlys Julian (Gila Ridge HS) was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Lorenson picked up the win (2-3) after she pitched four innings giving up two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Wood pitched the fifth inning as she set the Artichokes down in order.
The Aztecs will play on the road on Tuesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The games will be at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
