Aztecs track & field adds four to incoming class

The Pima Community College track & field team is building its 2019 incoming class.

Pima Community College track & field athlete Tyler Valenzuela (Canyon del Oro HS) signed his letter of intent on Monday and will continue his education and collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level.

Sophomore Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) took fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best of 41-feet, 2-inches. Sophomore Katherine Bruno placed fifth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:54.09. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams closed out the 2019 season on Saturday at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Hobbs, NM.

Sophomore Katherine Bruno (left) took sixth place in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12 minutes, 10.62 seconds. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams completed the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Friday in Hobbs, NM.

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field team opened competition on Thursday at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Hobbs, NM.

Freshman Jaylen Coleman and sophomore Hailey Myles took home the triple jump region titles on Thursday in the final day of competition at the NJCAA Region I Championships. The Aztecs women's team took third place and the men's finished fourth in the final team standings. The Aztecs will head to Hobbs, NM for the NJCAA Division I Championships from May 16-18. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams closed out competition at the NJCAA Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs track & field team took home three region titles after the first day of the competition at the Region I Championships. Sophomore Katherine Bruno (third from the left) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase and was part of the 4x800 relay team (Kaylen Fox, Iriana Sanchez and Mary Siml). The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in the first day of the NJCAA Region I Championships on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.

Sophomore Luis Oviedo (Rio Rico HS) earned a national qualifying time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Saturday at the Triton Invitational. He finished the race with a time of 9 minutes, 52.26 seconds. The Aztecs have set 12 national qualifying marks in the outdoor season. Photo by Ben Carbajal

Pima Community College cross country and track & field distance runner Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) signed her national letter of intent on Thursday.

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the West Campus track & field on Friday and came away with four more outdoor national qualifiers.

The Aztecs track & field teams captured four conference titles at the ACCAC Meet on Friday at Mesa Community College. Sophomore Katherine Bruno claimed the 5,000 and 1,500 meter races. The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams opened the outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the Willie Williams Invitational held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

Freshman Mary Siml earned six total points for the Aztecs are the NJCAA Indoor National Championships. She broke the Pima school record in the 1,000 meters and even broke her own record with a time of 3:03.44. She was also part od the distance medley relay that took sixth with a time of 12:29.48.
