Bio

USATF Level 2 Certification Sprints/Hurdles/Relays

Started at Pima: 2015
Education: MBA, University of Phoenix, BS in Broadcast Journalism, Arizona State University.
Coaching experience: This is Coach Muhammad’s 4th season at Pima.  Muhammad coached nine years at the Arizona high school level at Canyon State Academy, Tempe High School and Dobson High School. Canyon State Academy won the 1A (small school) Division Regional and State Championships in 2006.
Highlights: In just 3 seasons he has coached 5 NJCAA All Americans. Muhammad’s athletes have set 6 school records in the men’s 110m hurdles, men’s indoor 4 X 400m relay, women’s 60m dash, women’s 60m hurdles, women’s indoor 4 X 400m relay and women’s outdoor 4 X 100m relay.
2016: Coach Muhammad had a total of six outdoor national qualifiers; three in the men's 110 meter hurdles, two in the men's 400 meter hurdles and one in the women's 400 meter hurdles.  NJCAA All American Jomari Collie placed fifth at the Outdoor National Championships in the men's 110 meter hurdles setting  a new school record in 14.33.
2017: 8 indoor national qualifiers and 3 indoor school records, 1 indoor All American and 3 outdoor All Americans . Indoor school records by Amber McCroskey in women's 60m dash, Rhiannon Bearup in women's 60m hurdles and women's 4 x 400m relay of McCroskey, Bearup, Melissa Cotsonas and Tyra Yanez. Additional indoor national qualifiers were the men’s 4 X 400m relay of Alan Leyva, Alex Palacios, Isaiah Martin and Emanual Doe. Alex Palacios earned All American honors as a member of the 6th place Distance Medley Relay. 8 outdoor national qualifiers, 1 outdoor school record  and 3 NJCAA All Americans. Bearup placed 7th in women's 400m hurdles and Cotsonas placed 8th in women's 400m hurdles and the 4 X 100m relay of Yanez, Hannah Bartz, Bearup and McCroskey ran 47.02 setting a new school record..  Freshman Andy Trinh earned All American honors as a member of the 6th place 4 X 800m team.
2018: 8 indoor national qualifier, 7 outdoor national qualifiers and 2 indoor school records in women’s 60m hurdles and men’s 4 X 400m relay. Jala Pinckney set the school record in women’s 60m hurdles(8.80) and sophomore Isaiah Martin, along with freshmen Dariun Glover, Adrian Watson and Robert Williams ran 3.18:09 in the 4 X 400m relay. Outdoor national qualifiers were freshman Annie Spencer in women’s 400m hurdles men’s 4 X 100m relay of Glover, Williams, Martin and Duan Grant and men’s 4 X 400m relay of freshman Deshawn Gill, Glover, freshman Adrian Watson and Williams.
Personal: Coach Muhammad has 3 children all of whom competed in collegiate track and field.
