Aztecs women's basketball drops conference opener at Cochise College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (3-2, 0-1 in ACCAC) opened ACCAC conference play on Wednesday on the road at Cochise College (6-0, 1-0).

  • The No. 6 ranked (Division II) Aztecs fell to the No. 22 ranked (Division I) Apaches 76-71.
  • The Aztecs trailed by 15 points but took the lead with four minutes left in the game. Tied at 68-68, the Aztecs were outscored 8-3 in the final 57.3 seconds.
  • Sophomores Alyssa Perez (Marana HS) and Hallie Lawson (Campo Verde HS) each finished with 14 points. Freshman Aaliyah Ortiz (Palo Verde HS) added 13 points.
  • Freshman Fama Thiam (Highland HS) and sophomore Marlena Arroyo-Plata (Campo Verde HS) each contributed with eight points.
  • The Aztecs went 20 for 29 at the free throw line for the game.

The Aztecs will head back out on the road on Saturday when they play at Eastern Arizona College. Tip-Off is set for 5:30 p.m.
