Matehya Aberle's 21-point, 10-rebound effort fuels Aztecs Women's Basketball past Eastern Wyoming College
The Pima Community College women's basketball team (2-0) opened play at the Eastern Arizona Classic with a big win on Thursday in Thatcher, AZ.
- The No. 16 ranked Aztecs (Division II) defeated Eastern Wyoming College (Division I) 83-70.
- The Aztecs trailed 39-38 at halftime and 55-53 after the third quarter. Pima went on a 22-4 run in the fourth to take a 75-59 lead. They outscored the Lancers 30-15 in the final period.
- Sophomore Matehya Aberle (Holbrook HS) finished the game with a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds after going 6 for 12 from the field and 9 for 12 from the free throw line. She also had two steals.
- Sophomore Luisa Chavez (Rio Rico HS) shot 7 for 12 from the field and 3 for 7 from three-point range as she added 18 points along with five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
- Sophomore Jaden Leslie (Dobson HS) also scored in double figures as she contributed with 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) fell short of a double-double as she posted nine points and eight rebounds.
The Aztecs continue play in the Eastern Arizona Classic on Friday when they play Community Christian College at 4:30 p.m.
