Nayeli Vidal and Caitlyn Maher each score twice as Women's Soccer beats Paradise Valley CC on Sophomore Day

The No. 3 ranked Aztecs women's soccer team earned their sixth straight win after beating Paradise Valley Community College 4-1. Nayeli Vidal and Caitlyn Maher each scored two goals. The Pima Community College women's soccer team (11-1, 8-1 in ACCAC) celebrated Sophomore Day on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Field part of the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex.

  • The No. 3 ranked Aztecs defeated Paradise Valley Community College 4-1 gaining their sixth straight win. It was the first time the Aztecs had been scored on since Sept. 17 against Phoenix College.
  • Sophomores Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS) and Caitlyn Maher (Catalina Foothills HS) each scored two goals.
  • Vidal put the Aztecs on the board in the 12th minute. Maher assisted in the goal, which was her 11th assist of the season. Vidal made it 3-0 with her second goal in the 49th minute.
  • Maher netted her first goal of the season in the 21st minute with an assist from Vidal. She made it 4-0 with another goal in the 64th minute. Sophomore Alexus Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) provided the assist.
  • Jayla Patrick scored for the Pumas in the 84th minute.
  • Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished the game with six saves. Freshman Adriana Pacheco (Cienega HS) closed out the game with one save.
  • Before the game, the 10 women's soccer sophomores were recognized: Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS), Mari Acosta (Sahuarita HS), Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS), Sophia Duran (Tucson Magnet HS), Savannah Gutierrez (Tucson Magnet HS), Alexus Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS), Caitlyn Maher (Catalina Foothills HS), Riley Bonner (Cienega HS), Bri Gerhart (Tanque Verde HS) and Delaney Buntin (Cienega HS).

The Aztecs will play their final two regular season games on the road. They play at Cochise College on Saturday in Douglas. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
