(CORRECTION) Aztecs women's tennis gains control of singles play to top Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (2-2) earned an ACCAC conference win on the road at Paradise Valley Community College on Thursday in Phoenix.

  • The Aztecs defeated the Pumas 6-3 as they won five of the six singles matches. Freshman Melina Oropeza (Nogales HS) picked up the victory at No. 2 singles as she beat Samantha Aley 6-1, 6-2.
  • Freshman Olivia Manheimer (Ironwood Ridge HS) defeated Tia Silva at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Manheimer and Oropeza claimed Pima's win at No. 1 doubles beating Silva and Baylee Decker 8-3.
  • Freshman Jazmin Nunez (Cholla HS) defeated Leah Bookbinder in her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-4.
  • Sophomore Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) won her No. 3 singles match over Decker 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Valeria Miranda (Sunnyside HS) played at No. 4 singles and topped Calli Chance 6-1, 6-4. Fitzimmons and Miranda played a close No. 2 doubles match but fell 8-6.
  • The Aztecs forfeited the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles spots.

The Aztecs will play at Eastern Arizona College in an ACCAC match-up on Tuesday in Thatcher. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
