Aztecs Volleyball Win Final Two Matches at Scottsdale Tourney

The Pima Community College volleyball team (8-5) closed out play in the Scottsdale CC Classic Tournament on Saturday with another pair of tough matches.

The Aztecs had to play catch up for most of the match but they rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to beat Mesa Community College in five games 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 15-8.

In their final match of the day, the Aztecs swept through Victoria College (TX) in three sets (25-16, 25-11, 25-20).

The Aztecs had some standout performances in the Scottsdale CC Classic Tournament. Sophomore Jamie Holliday (Sahuaro HS) had 45 kills and 28 digs in three matches. Sophomores Miranda Bingham (Safford HS) and Angel Chavez (Mingus Union HS) had some strong serves as Bingham had 17 aces and Chavez had seven for the tournament. Bingham also had 173 assists and 67 digs. Chavez had 73 digs in five matches.

Freshman Kristin Baldwin (Thatcher HS) (pictured) had 24 blocks and 19 kills in four matches while sophomore Brooklyn Scarborough (Thatcher HS) had 33 kills and 35 digs in four matches.

The Aztecs will get back ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at the West Campus gymnasium when they host Scottsdale Community College at 7:00 p.m.
