Aztec Volleyball Struggles but Finishes Strong at NMMI Classic

The Pima Community College volleyball team (1-4) closed out play in the NMMI Classic Tournament in Roswell, NM on Saturday.

The Aztecs went 1-3 for the tournament as they dropped their first three matches but closed it out with a win.

The Aztecs defeated Garden City Community College (KS) in four sets 25-18, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22. Pima dropped its first match on Saturday to Odessa College (TX) in three sets 25-19, 25-11, 25-16.

The Aztecs played two matches on Friday falling to host school New Mexico Military Institute in three sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 and lost to Seward County Community College in three sets 25-21, 25-14, 26-24.

Sophomore Victoria Davis (Sahuaro HS) finished the tournament with 22 kills and 23 digs in 11 sets played. Fellow sophomore Aleksandra Palmer (Thatcher HS) had 22 kills in 10 sets. Freshman Hannah Gerard (Canyon del Oro HS) recorded 45 assists and eight digs in 13 sets played while fellow freshman Kayli Riesgo (Cienega HS) posted 25 assists and eight aces in 12 sets. Freshman Anissa Conrad (Sahuaro HS) had 25 digs in 13 sets.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when they play at Phoenix College at 7:00 p.m.
