Aztec Volleyball Drops Three of Four at Scottsdale Classic

The Pima Community College volleyball team (3-9) competed in the Scottsdale Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Scottsdale Community College.

The Aztecs dropped three of the four matches they played in.

In Saturday's competition, the Aztecs were able to tie the match at 1-1 and played a grueling third set but fell to Central Wyoming College in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 31-29, 25-15). In the afternoon match, the Aztecs again tied the match in the second set against Arizona Western College but lost in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-11, 25-15).

The Aztecs also played two matches on Friday. They lost in four sets to Western Texas College (25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22). The Aztecs won their second match against Central Arizona College in four sets (25-10, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19).

Sophomore Aleksandra Palmer (Thatcher HS) finished the tournament with 39 kills and 27 digs while freshman Trae Johnson (Highland HS) had 38 kills, 18 digs and four blocks. Freshman Hannah Gerard (Canyon del Oro HS) contributed with 91 assists and 34 digs. Freshman Anissa Conrad (Sahuaro HS) finished with 68 digs and six aces.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.
