Aztec Volleyball Falls Against Arizona Western College

The Pima Community College volleyball team (4-11, 2-5 in ACCAC) ran into a tough Arizona Western College (17-0, 6-0) team on Wednesday at the West Campus gymnasium.

The Aztecs fell in straight sets 25-18, 25-19, 25-10 to the No. 19 ranked Matadors.

In the first set, the Aztecs trailed most of the game and tied it up on a couple occasions early. Pima got within two points at 16-14 but the Matadors scored three straight points to open more of their lead. The Aztecs got within three points at 20-17 but Arizona Western scored five of the final six points to take the first set.

The Aztecs trailed the entire second set and closed the gap to three points at 22-19 but the Matadors scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Aztecs struggled in the third set as the Matadors scored 15 of the first 17 points.

Sophomore Aleksandra Palmer (Thatcher HS) finished the match with 10 kills and 11 digs while freshman Anissa Conrad (Sahuaro HS) posted 15 digs.

The Aztecs will play a non-conference match at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
