Aztec Volleyball Drop Home Finale Against Chandler-Gilbert

The Pima Community College volleyball team (8-17, 2-11 in ACCAC) struggled in its final regular season home match on Friday at the West Campus Gymnasium.

The Aztecs were shut out in straight sets against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (5-12, 4-8) 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 as Pima struggled to gain advantages late in the games. The Aztecs have lost six straight.

In the first set, the Aztecs took a 16-14 advantage to force the Coyotes to call timeout. Chandler-Gilbert went on to score 11 of the final 13 points to win it. The Aztecs struggled to close out the second set as they took a 20-19 lead but the Coyotes finished the game winning six of seven points. In the third set, the Aztecs took a couple of early one-point leads but the Coyotes took control to hold a slim lead for most of the set. The Aztecs lost the final eight of 11 set points.

Sophomores Aubrey Lomeli (St. Mary's HS) and Aleksandra Palmer (Thatcher HS) each finished the match with seven kills. Freshman Anissa Conrad (Sahuaro HS) had 17 digs while Kayli Riesgo (Cienega HS) posted 17 assists.

Sophomores Lomeli, Palmer and Victoria Davis (Sahuaro HS) were recognized after the game.

The Aztecs close out the regular season with three matches on the road. They will play at Central Arizona College on Wednesday in Coolidge at 7:00 p.m.
