Pima Community College women's cross country freshman Yaxiri Ortiz (Sunnyside HS) was selected the Chapman Automotive Aztecs Player of the Week for the week of September 13-19.

  • Ortiz was at the Meet Coordinator at the Los Mesquites XC High School Invitational hosted by Sunnyside High School, her alma mater, on Saturday. She helped set-up the meet, called out placements and schools as they were finishing the race, handed out awards for teams and individuals and finally helped clean up.
  • Coach's Quote: "Yaxiri is a phenomenal leader and teammate on our cross country team. She is so warm and welcoming to every member on both the women's and men's teams," Pima cross country co-head coach Mark Bennett said. "She is constantly checking on everyone. I am very impressed with her work ethic and she inspires me to be a better coach and person."
  • This award is open to all Pima student-athletes and is based on their athletic achievement, leadership among the coaches and peers and service to the community.
  • Representatives from Pima Athletics and Chapman Automotive compile nominations submitted by Pima coaches and make the selections.

The Aztecs men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the ACCAC Conference Championships on Friday, October 1 at Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ. The races begin at 8:00 a.m.
