Aztecs Women's Cross Country competes at NJCAA Division I National Championships
The Pima Community College women's cross country team closed out the 2022 season on Saturday after competing in the NJCAA Division I National Championships held at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, FL.
- The Aztecs finished in 24th place out of 25 teams with a team score of 567. The Aztecs were not ranked coming into the national championship race.
- Sophomore Marissa Lopez (Sahuarita HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs in the 5K race as she took 72nd place out of 181 competitors with a time of 21 minutes, 26.5 seconds.
- Freshman Julia Lundberg (North Canyon HS) closed out the race in the 108th spot with a time of 22:52.9. Fellow freshman Kate Shoemaker (Heritage Academy Mesa) took 112th and crossed the finish line at 23:03.2.
- Freshman Naiomi Hereim (San Tan Foothills HS) was 137th with a time of 25:03.4 and freshman Iyannah Tolliver (Sahuaro HS) finished 138th at 25:25.1.
- Coach's quote: "The women fought hard. They have put in so much work and I am proud of them," Pima cross country coach Mark Bennett said.
The Aztecs begin the 2023 Women's Track & Field season in January.
