Education: B.S. Biology, Seattle Pacific University, 1972
Coaching Experience: Coach Phil has been coaching at Pima 17 years. He gives sport highlights credit to Greg Wenneborg whom he was honored to coach with for 15 years.
Highlights: Coach Phil has been running for health for 44 years.
Personal: Coach Phil is the son of a Methodist pastor who earned a doctor of theology degree. His mother, who degreed in English and Music, will celebrate her 100th birthday in June 2020. Coach Phil has packed a lot of action into his 70+ years.  He was staff sergeant (E5) United States Air Force. As flight crew member he flew 21 combat missions in Vietnam. He attained commercial pilot’s license with instrument ratings in single and multi-engine aircraft. He was First Lieutenant in Civil Air Patrol and was a qualified air search and rescue pilot. He has worked as switchman for the railroad, a pharmaceutical sales rep, and later was self-employed until retirement. He has vacationed in Europe and Australia. He has visited all 50 States except Alaska. On several sales assignments he lived in St. Louis, Denver, Kansas City, Tampa, and Dayton, Ohio. Coach Phil owned a motorcycle. He was co-owner of a sail boat and a motor boat. He obtained a Commercial Driver License, then drove a bus full of church youth from Tucson to San Antonio, twice to Ensenada, Baja, and once to Los Angeles. Married for 35 years; a widower for the past 11 years. He does Christian mission work in México and regularly visits his 3 goddaughters in México. He is a self-taught guitar player and member of his church band. He is always seeking to improve his musical and Spanish language skills. Did someone say ‘active life style’?
