Rauer take first place at Pima Invitational

The Pima Community College men's golf team had its best finish of the season on Tuesday in the Pima Invitational.

The Aztecs, who've finished fourth in their first three tournaments of the season, secured third place at the Silverbell Golf Course. Pima shot a season-best 565 (286-279). South Mountain Community College came in first place with a two-day total of 548 (280-268) and Mesa finished second with a score of 563 (286-277). Behind the Aztecs was Eastern Arizona College, who took fourth with a 567.

David Rauer (Cienega HS) tied a course-record after the first day. He shot an eight-under par 64 and closed out the tournament in first place in the individual tournament with a two-day score of 132 (64-68). Anthony Moncada (Tucson Magnet HS) and Will Dennis each shot an even-par 144 for the tournament. Aaron Ramonett(Tucson Magnet HS) and Frankie Wu (Canyon del Oro HS) each shot a 148.

"David played fantastic. Tying the course record on Monday and following it up with a solid 68 today," Pima coach Clark Rustand said. "We stepped up this week in a big way and took a step in the direction of realizing our potential. They are beginning to realize how good they can be and that they can compete with anyone."

The Aztecs will play in the Estrella Mountain Invitational on Mar. 31-Apr. 1 at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, AZ. The teams will tee-off at 12:45 p.m. on both days.
